JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Landstar System, Inc. (Nasdaq: LSTR), a safety-first non-asset based provider of global transportation and logistics services, announced today that Landstar Express America President Ron Stanley has been appointed Landstar Chief Operating Officer and Landstar Logistics President Jim Handoush has been named President of Landstar Global Logistics, Inc.

In his new position, Stanley will be responsible for all operating company functions including those of the Landstar Carrier Group and Landstar Global Logistics. Landstar Carrier Group President Jeff Pundt and Landstar Global Logistics President Jim Handoush will each report directly to Stanley.

In August 2005, the company launched Landstar Global Logistics, comprised of Landstar Express America, Inc. and Landstar Logistics, Inc., to better position itself as a premium global logistics and transportation solutions provider, focused on exceeding the needs of its customers worldwide. These executive management appointments lay the foundation on which Landstar will broaden the scope of its supply-chain solutions and international reach.

Stanley will also be responsible for the expansion of Landstar's national accounts sales effort. The company is broadening the reach of its National Accounts sales force to market Landstar's complete line of offerings including logistics, over-the-road, ocean, air, rail, multimodal and expedited services.

Stanley joined Landstar in 1996 as president of Landstar Express America and has effectively transformed Landstar Express America into a top performing Landstar company. He has 23 years of experience in transportation marketing, specializing in global airfreight.

"Ron is an effective leader who delivers results, inspires innovative thinking and has a firm grasp of the global marketplace," said Landstar President and CEO Henry Gerkens. "He will lead our overall global expansion efforts as we continue to deliver exceptional service to all our customers."

"Landstar is one of the most nimble, innovative companies in the business," said Stanley. "Our independent agents, business capacity providers and employees have demonstrated our business model in action, and its ability to move this company forward while providing professional opportunities to thousands of small business owners. Together, we plan to expand the Landstar system worldwide."

As President of Landstar Global Logistics, Handoush will be responsible for the development of both global and domestic business as well as launching the company's new warehousing initiative. Handoush joined Landstar in 1996 as Vice President of Finance and Administration at Landstar Logistics and has served as President of that company since 2004.

As President, Handoush has expanded Landstar Logistics' opportunities by growing its agent base, laying the foundation for its future warehousing network of capacity providers and developing the company into a more complete supply-chain services provider.

"Jim will play a pivotal role in our efforts to span the globe with our exceptional business model of third-party sales agents and capacity providers eager to meet and exceed customer expectations," said Gerkens. "Under his leadership, Landstar Global Logistics customers will benefit from a more comprehensive menu of domestic and international transportation and logistics services."

"I'm particularly excited about the upcoming rollout of our new warehousing services in 2006," said Handoush. "It's part of our ongoing plan to add value to customers looking for more complete supply-chain solutions. At the same time, we will continue to deliver flexible, customized transportation and logistics solutions to those we serve."

These appointments demonstrate Landstar's significant commitment to advancing its global supply-chain operation. "Landstar is a young company," said Gerkens. "In less than 20 years, we have successfully broadened our reach to bring excellence in transportation and logistics services to shippers worldwide. As I've said in the past, Landstar will go where our customers take us -- be it across the state or around the globe."
