JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (Nasdaq: LSTR) Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first non-asset based provider of transportation capacity and logistics services, announced today that Randy Mitchelle, Vice President of Information Services at Landstar's Rockford, Illinois Service Center, has been selected as one of the Computerworld's 2008 Premier 100 Information Technology (IT) Leaders by International Data Group's (IDG) Computerworld magazine.

According to, Computerworld, The Premier 100 honors the top 100 IT executives who "have led their organizations by mentoring and motivating employees; envisioning innovative solutions to business challenges; and effectively managing and executing IT strategies."

"It's a wonderful honor to be recognized and it makes me proud to be part of an outstanding IT group here at Landstar," said Mitchelle, who joined the company in 1999.

The Premier 100 recipients were selected from nearly 800 nominees, who were evaluated by the magazine's editors and by a panel of outside judges on areas ranging from work experiences to leadership style. In addition, each nominee was measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics used to identify executives who guide the effective use of IT within their organizations to resolve pressing business problems.

"This award is a reflection of Randy's commitment to his work and to Landstar," said Landstar Vice President and CIO Larry Thomas. "We are genuinely thrilled to have him receive the honor and with it the recognition that it brings to the company."

Mitchelle's selection marks the third time a member of Landstar's IT department has been recognized for the award, following Thomas in 2006 and Vice President of Advanced Technology Patrick Wise in 2001.

"The fact that three of Landstar's IT professionals have earned this award is a great example of how we are focused on innovation and utilizing technology to make our agents, business capacity owners (BCOs) and customers more competitive," said Landstar President and CEO Henry Gerkens. "This recognition reflects the dedication of the entire IT department at Landstar."

Mitchelle, along with the other honorees, will be recognized in March at Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference in Orlando, Florida. The complete Premier 100 list appears online at www.premier100.com.
