JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Landstar System, Inc. (Nasdaq: LSTR), a safety-first non-asset based provider of transportation capacity and logistics services, announced today that John Higbe, Vice President of Information Services Development at Landstar'sJacksonville, Florida service center, has been selected as one of Computerworld's Premier 100 Information Technology (IT) Leaders for 2009.

The honor recognizes the 100 IT executives who have led their organizations by mentoring and motivating employees, envisioning innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively managing and executing IT strategies. The honorees will be recognized at Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference in Orlando, Florida, in March.

"I'm humbled to be honored and it especially makes me proud to be part of an outstanding IT group here at Landstar," said Higbe, who has been with the company since its inception. "It's been a pleasure to watch Landstar grow into the thriving corporation it is today."

Higbe's selection marks the fourth time a member of Landstar's IT department has been selected. Previous honorees include: Vice President of IS Customer Service, Rockford Service Center Randy Mitchelle (2008), Vice President and CIO Larry Thomas (2006), and Vice President of Advanced Technology Patrick Wise (2001).

"It's a tremendous honor for John and a very well-deserved honor given all of the contributions to Landstar that he has made over the years," said Thomas. "His commitment to innovation is part of what has made Landstar so successful."

Higbe was selected from over 1,000 nominees, who were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by a panel of outside judges.

"The fact that four of Landstar's IT professionals have earned this achievement is a great example of how we are focused on innovation and utilizing technology to make our agents, business capacity owners (BCOs) and customers more competitive," said Landstar President and CEO Henry Gerkens. "This recognition reflects the dedication of the entire IT department at Landstar."
