Landstar Announces Special Dividend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Landstar System, Inc. (NASDAQ-LSTR), a worldwide, asset-light provider of integrated transportation management solutions delivering safe, specialized transportation logistics services, announced today that its Board of Directors has declared a special one-time dividend of $1.00 per share, payable on January 26, 2015, to shareholders of record on January 12, 2015.

"Landstar's strong balance sheet and financial strength enables it to pay this special one-time dividend and return additional capital to our stockholders from available cash," said Landstar Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Henry Gerkens. "As previously reported, as of September 27, 2014, the Company had $178 million in cash and short term investments and had $192 million available for borrowing under the Company's senior credit facility. The Company intends to continue to return capital to its shareholders primarily through the purchase of its stock under its stock purchase program. Currently, there are approximately 1,828,000 shares of the Company's common stock available for purchase under Landstar's authorized share purchase program."
