Jim Applegate
Jim Applegate serves as Vice President and Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer of Landstar. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s enterprise strategy, transformation initiatives, and long-term priorities. He works closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities to enhance organizational effectiveness, drive innovation, and ensure strategic alignment across the business.
Since joining Landstar in 2009, Applegate has held a variety of leadership roles spanning business development, business solutions, and corporate sales. He was promoted to Executive Vice President of Business Development and Analysis in 2014 and, four years later, to Executive Vice President of Business Intelligence and Strategy. In 2024, he was appointed Vice President and Chief Corporate Sales, Strategy & Specialized Freight Officer. In 2026, he assumed his current role as Vice President and Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer.
Applegate holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. He also completed the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Applegate and his wife, Michelle, live in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and have three adult children.
